Today, I spent the day at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Olympia. Magical!
As well as all the stands selling everything from sewing machines and material, to yarns and accessories, I always love the exhibitions. A favorite this year was Material World, an exhibition of yarn art by Jessica Dance.
Not just perfectly executed artworks, but each makes a statement about value.
The caption for this reads: “A secondhand Hermes Birkin bag in good condition would cost anything from £15,000″
Also on show were a series of dresses designed and made by year 12 students.
And the detail was stunning!
And another artist who caught my eye was Louise Baldwin who displayed a series of panels. These were fabrics, including felt, and embroidered. I think these were about £450 each.
And of course there is always a competition for non-artists and this year it was on knitted food. I like the sushi – even the chopsticks were knitted. No attributions were attached to the competition entries, but it all looks good enough to eat.
